Avila Spaces Nominated for the Second Time for the World’s Best Coworking Space Award

Like 2021, Avila Spaces is once again in the running to win the World’s Best Coworking Space award, a competition that is part of the Global Startup Awards that aims to recognize the best organizations in the global startup ecosystem. Avila competes with  other regional winners in Sweden, South Africa, Georgia, Bulgaria, Sri-Lanka, Malaysia, and the United Arab Emirates.

The nomination for ‘Best Coworking in the World’ comes on the back of Avila Spaces winning the award for Best Coworking in Southern Europe in the summer of 2022, after beating out thirteen finalists from France, Spain, Italy, Malta, and Greece.

Avila Spaces got this distinction for the second time in three years, and is the only space to have two Best Coworking Space in Southern Europe awards.

One of the main reasons for this nomination was the opening of the first coworking space integrated in a shopping center: Avila Work City, inaugurated in February 2021, is on the second floor of the Atrium Saldanha, in an open space of 640 square meters with a view to the Duque de Saldanha square and Avenida Fontes Pereira de Melo.

Here, the winning Avila Spaces concept is recreated, with a lounge area, individual and collaborative work zones, meeting rooms, boots for phone calls, pantry and a novelty: a presentation zone, with an amphitheater, prepared for corporate events or product launches. One of the highlights is the Work City room, a glass “aquarium,” completely soundproofed, “suspended” over the shopping gallery of the Atrium Saldanha.

The winner of the World’s Best Coworking Space is chosen by a jury and online votes. The winner will be announced at a ceremony held in Copenhagen on March 29th, which will also be attended by the Portuguese ambassador in Denmark, João Maria Cabral.

“The award for ‘Best Coworking Space’ at the South Europe Startup Awards and this nomination for the top award at the Global Startup Awards are a recognition of Avila Spaces’ leadership in the shared workspace sector and its abilities to provide a culture and environment that stimulates innovation, in addition to its services and resources  available to fast-growing technology startups,” said Carlos Gonçalves, CEO of Avila Spaces.

“In 2021, we created a pioneering concept in Portugal, a cowork within a shopping mall, which is still the only one of its kind in the country, and we further developed our Avila Connect platform, which works as a social network for our members and partners,” added Gonçalves.

Avila Spaces is the most awarded business center in Portugal and is the innovation leader in the flexible workspaces market in the country. The Coworking and Business Lounge offer a premium environment, with cutting edge technology, where companies can grow in a sustained and dynamic way. In 2022, Avila Spaces opened the first coworking project inserted in the galleries of a shopping center: the Avila Work City, at the Atrium Saldanha.

Founded in 2004, the Avila Spaces currently has over 1000 national and international customers and it is a member and representative in Portugal of the largest network of business centers in the world, the eOffice International Network. This network has over 300 locations and is managed from the United Kingdom. Avila Spaces has its premises in Lisbon, in Avenida da República and the Atrium Saldanha Shopping Centre. In 2019 and 2021 it was awarded ‘Best Coworking Space’ at the South Europe Startup Awards, which reinforced the company’s leadership in the flexible, shared workspaces sector and its abilities to provide a culture and environment that encourages innovation, in addition to its services and resources made available to fast-growing technology startups.
